| Oppressed people every where rise up and break your chains! Leave behind the razors and tequila bottles and support a holiday that has dignified tradition and strong moral standing. What is this nonsense of counting in Spanish and shaving carefully manicured facial hair? Even your mother would tell you, you look like a grown man who spends too much time near the playground. Embrace adulthood and a true American tradition: Bourbon and Roses. The fifth of May is unimportant. The day of May 6th, 2006 however, constitutes the 132nd running of the Kentucky Derby. Truly, a day worth celebrating with culinary indulgence. With the season in full bloom, most Freestylewalkers have little opportunity for anything beyond competing, training and signing autographs. So this recipe will be brief and historic. ***WARNING: FREESTYLE WALKING IS VERY SERIOUS PSYCHOLOGICALLY AND PHYSIOLOGICALLY. IN NO WAY IS ALCOHOL RECOMMENDED AS PART OF A TRAINING REGIMEN OR LIFESTYLE.*** Mint Juleps: Ingredients- Simple Syrup 1 cup sugar 1 cup water 1 bunch fresh mint crushed ice bourbon of choice To make syrup, heat water and stir in sugar until dissolved. Raise heat and simmer for five minutes. Remove from heat and add mint. Steep for 15 minutes. Remove mint and store syrup until needed. In a highball glass or a traditional silver Julep cup, add 1 ounce of minted syrup and a cup of crushed ice. Shake together. Add 2 ounces of bourbon. Add water (cold filtered) if desired. Garnish with fresh mint and serve repeatedly until rich from winnings or pain of loss is diminished. Run fast, Sweet Northern Saint. Drink up walkers of the world! |
